Letting Go: Trusting God in the Release

“Let go and let God.”

These five simple words hold deep power, especially when we find ourselves clinging tightly to things — people, plans, past hurts, or even the illusion of control.

Letting go isn’t weakness. It’s not about giving up. It’s about surrendering what was never ours to carry in the first place. In life, there are seasons where we’re called to release — to release the burden, the bitterness, the fear, the relationship, the dream that no longer aligns with God’s purpose for us.

The Weight We Carry

We often carry so much silently:

  • Regrets from the past
  • Worries about the future
  • Relationships that no longer bring peace
  • Expectations we put on ourselves or others

But God didn’t design us to walk burdened. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Letting go allows space for that rest — a rest only He can give.

Why Letting Go Is So Hard

Letting go requires faith. It asks us to loosen our grip and trust that even if we release something — or someone — God’s hands are big enough to hold it all. Often, we fear what life will look like on the other side. But sometimes what we’re afraid to lose is what’s holding us back from growing.

Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It means choosing peace over pain, healing over hurt, and trust over control.

A Faithful Surrender

The Bible is full of stories of people who had to let go:

  • Abraham had to let go of his own understanding to trust God’s promise.
  • Moses had to let go of his insecurities to lead a nation.
  • Jesus, in the garden of Gethsemane, let go of His own will and said, “Not my will, but Yours be done.”

If our Savior could surrender, so can we — not from fear, but from faith.

What Happens When We Let Go

When we let go, God moves. He brings clarity, healing, and opens doors we couldn’t see while clinging to the past. Sometimes, He replaces what we’ve lost with something better. Sometimes, He simply fills the empty space with His presence — and that is more than enough.

Letting go is not a one-time act. It’s a daily choice to trust. A daily prayer:
“Lord, help me release what is not mine to hold, and give me peace in the waiting.”

Final Reflection

You may be standing at the edge of release, fearful of what’s next. But here’s the truth:

What you let go of in faith, God takes into His hands.
What you surrender, He restores in His perfect time.
Letting go is not loss — it’s trust. And with trust, there is always hope.

You’re not losing control. You’re placing it in the hands of the One who’s never lost.
